Rainy night at the outpost
You're curling up on your cot, getting ready for bed, while the rest of your platoon winds down for the evening. They brush their teeth, make their beds, engage in a little idle banter. Some are already asleep, others read books and letters by lantern light. Still others are just now turning in for the night, hanging up their dripping gear by their bunks. You hear the roving patrol pass outside the platoon's sheet-metal hut every few minutes, sloshing through puddles as he makes his rounds. Hey, at least it's not your watch tonight.
