Sheltered from the Storm
You crawl into bed after a long day. Your body is tired and the cool linen slips around you in a welcoming embrace. Outside, a distant rumble can be heard but—as though in protest of your rest—the storm rushes in as you close your eyes. Thunder begins to shake the house and rain taps at your window like a child begging you to come play. The persistent weather keeps you awake far later than you bargained for, but you don't mind at all. Here amongst the sheets your body is heavy with exhaustion, but you feel comforted by the safety of this moment. You could listen to the storm all night.
